Recording Guidelines
Categories, Repertoire and Time limit:
Participants must select a minimum of two etudes from the corresponding age category. The etudes are expected to be performed at the indicated tempo and the style and interpretation according to the composer’s style. The etudes selected must be of contrasting technical difficulties. All etudes must be performed by memory and with all the repeats indicated in the score. The etudes should be performed with artistry mastering the technical and musical challenges presented in the work.
Category A: ages 8 and under. Time limit 10 minutes
Participants will select a minimum of two etudes from the following repertoire list:
Category B: 9-10 years old. Time limit 10 minutes
Participants will select a minimum of two etudes from the following repertoire list:
Category C: 11-12 years old. Time limit 12 minutes
Participants will select a minimum of two etudes from the following repertoire list:
Category D: 13-15 years old. Time limit 12 minutes
Participants will select a minimum of two etudes from the following repertoire list:
Category E: 16-18 years old. Time limit 15 minutes
Participants will select a minimum of two etudes from the following repertoire list:
Category F: 19-25 years old. Time limit 15 minutes
Participants will select a minimum of two etudes from the following repertoire list:
Application fees:
Category A: $40
Category B: $40
Category C: $45
Category D: $45
Category E: $50
Category F: $50
If the teacher is a member of CAPMT, but not a member of Orange County Chapter, there will be a $10 surcharge per application.
If the teacher is a not member of CAPMT, there will be a $20 surcharge per application.
There will be NO REFUNDS of the application fees in the event of non-participation.
- Due to COVID-19, 2021 CAPMT OC Piano Etudes Competition will be held online via youtube video submission. Please refer to the recording guidelines below.
- It is the responsibility of the applicant to abide by these guidelines. Failure to do so will result in disqualification of the applicant.
- Applicants’ age category is determined by their age on December 31, 2021 per CAPMT guidelines.
- Communications regarding the program should be between teachers and the event chair.
- Decisions of the adjudicators are final.
- Teacher, parent/guardians, and applicants may not converse or have any contact with the adjudicators before, during or after the competition. Students of the adjudicators may not compete.
- Fees for the application must be paid in full by the application deadline. Application deadline will be enforced. Late applications will not be accepted.
- No repertoire changes are permitted once the application has been submitted.
- There are no refunds of the application fees in the event of non-participation.
- All repertoire must be memorized.
- Previous First Place winners may NOT compete again in the same category in succeeding competitions.
- Students may NOT repeat any repertoire in subsequent years, even if they have not placed.
- Teachers should consider the time limit per category when selecting the repertoire. All pieces must be played in full. Adjudicators will not listen past the time limit for each category.
Recording Guidelines
- Recordings must consist of unedited, uninterrupted video footage of the participant from a single camera angle with coverage of the performer’s hands and face at all times.
- Recordings must begin with the participant stating his or her name in a clear voice.
- Recordings must be cued to begin within five seconds after the performer identifies him or herself by the name.
- Recordings must match the work with which the participant originally entered in the application form. Please add the repertoire info on the description section of the video with the category number. Example: Category A: Czerny Etude No. 2 & 3, Op. 453
- Recordings must be uploaded to YouTube and set for public or unlisted access.Please upload each video separately onto YouTube and share both links on the application form. It should be uploaded to the performer or the performance guardians/parents’ YouTube accounts. Please DO NOT upload them onto your music teacher’s accounts.
